Best source for DIS pack?
« on: 04 May 2013, 09:37:28 »

Won't know for sure until tomorrow that MotherT's 3.0 needs a new DIS, but when I do order one whats the best source these days?

Its the vertically mounted kind, with I think the oval plug (2000 W 3.0)

Seen some eBay sources, or worth paying a little more?  :-\

Whatever you buy, if you don't seal the scuttle properly it won't last long!  :(

Noted, current one is visually in perfect condition. I think the failed HT lead has caused a fault  :-\

Quite likely :(
The HT will take the easiest route to make a circuit. Usually the circuit is down one plug lead, over the spark plug gap in the cylinder about to fire (big voltage drop here), through the engine block, across the spark plug gap in the cylinder on the exhaust stroke (small voltage drop here because the hot exhaust gases readily give up charged ions to carry the charge across), then back up the other plug lead to the other end of the coil.
If the normal route isn't available then the voltage will rise as high as necessary to punch through a new route - possibly straight through the insulation inside the coil.  :'(

Quick favor to ask is: GM Part: 90541062

Correct for DIS on MotherT's 2000 3.0?

Looks right, plug is in correct place and shape...

I bought a pattern DISpack about 15 months ago and it worked fine. I'm not sure if it was the same supplier but it was one like it and the price was about the same.  :)

However she's misfiring again, but that's not to say the DISpack has failed.  I havn't had a chance to investigate yet...  :-\

If mine's gone again, the next one I fit will have a good coat of grease and will be wrapped in clingfilm....  :D
