I need to get my front brake pads changed fairly quickly. Haven't had time to phone vauxhall yet but the local motor factors have both of above brands for £20. I've read the other threads and it seems that the genuine vauxhall are recommended but has anyone any experience of either of these two brands. I need to get them done tomorrow really so if I can get genuine vx then I will, if not I'll have to use either of these two.

i use apec and have never had any problems with them

I have used Apec on several occasions, and the only car where they are acceptable is my sister's Morris 1300, which hardly taxes its brakes. The set I fitted to my 525 were on it for less than 3months before I changed them for some that would give more than 2 hard stops.
You'd have to pay me to use them again.

Hmmm mixed reports there then, I'll try vauxhall this morning maybe they'll have a set in stock. I've used ferodo before myself and had no problems so might have to use them then!

apex are made by mintex  ive never had a problem with them but then i dont stomp on my breaks all the time

I fitted Ferodo Premium  front pads to my Mv6.
Cost me 19 quid from the local factors.
Tbh, the are excellent 
Good bite (once they are bedded in) and not a lot of dust 
Not managed to get them to fade yet 
Must try harder 

Edit to say, if you have a angle grinder handy, grind any lip off the front discs

Ah, so another make to avoid then, as the Mintex ones withstand no abuse. Zilch. Zero. Their pads are poor as well.

Basically, there is a compromise - road pads that work from near cold, but will definately die (not just fade) after a dozen big stops, or track pads, such as EBC Red Stuff, which won't stop you on the motorway or first thing in the morning.

Poor/cheap pattern ones, and I include Mintex as I've had them myself, are spent after 2 or 3 big stops.

cant muck about with brakes mate... genuine vx parts are a must.

Got the pads from vauxhall this morning, £16 odd. Fitted now as well so happy days again. The pads that came off were made by Lucas, is that what was originally used? Oh and the sensor wire fell off basically as well, I presume its just a matter of plugging a new one in? Is it normal to have only the sensor on passenger side?

On facelifts - yes

Used Apec loads of time. Never any issues. I normally get them supplied from my mates garage. It's what they use as they don't get any problems and are a fair price. OK there are better pads which will work better at higher temps but if your driving that hard on the road you must be a bit of a loon.

Have used Ferodo since 2007.

An excellent pad. Very happy with them.

I personally think that Red stuff are the biggest waste of time going.

Hispec (near Dartford) put them on with EPC discs. Waste. of. Time.

Padgid were very good but stopped making them for the Omega a while ago.

Very Happy with Ferodo pads and happy to recommend them.

Red stuff are good for what they are designed to do. I use red stuff on my Carlton on track and it works excellent with standard original VX discs I've had grooved. However for day to day driving they are pants. Very wooden, no feel and do need a lot of extra pressure to haul the car up until they get into their operating temp.

Hang up I'm talking yellow stuff which are even harder than red.
