Frustrated at lack of power!
« on: 09 May 2013, 19:12:10 »

Good evening all. I recently bought an omega 2.2dti (my third omega) but as it is my first diesel I am stumped with a problem, and can't just find my exact symptoms on here!

So since I bought the car, I have changed the water pump, crank pulley and pretensioner, changed the oil, oil filer and air filter.

I was bemused with a lack of performance, and decided to clean the egr valve which was coked up rotten. At the same time I removed and cleaned the inter cooler and pipes.

As a result I was treated to a eml at idle that went away on acceleration or at a rise in revs. This was found to be 2 small leaks on the disturbed vacum system. Replaced worn parts and yay! Problem solved!

Still not convinced about the performance, which came to a head when one of the turbo pipes blew off. I replaced the clamp and away we went again.

Earlier this week the car treated me to a fantastic drive, with loads of power, just like it should be until I stopped to pick up my boy and left the car for five minutes, when restarted ran like a dog again with less power than should be there. Some 20 miles later the turbo pipe blew of the manifold, which was also treated to a new clip.

Since then the car has run underpowered for a couple of days and I just can't get to the bottom of the problem. I have cleaned the egr again, checked it for damage and all seems well, cleaned the boost sensor (although car is boosting and pipes getting hard from 2000rpm on wards) done the soap test on the pipes and found nothing amiss yet.

Really struggling as to what next step is.

Additionally noticed the following: slow turn over in the morning, eml on briefly in a morning (glow plugs I think) possible bad earth/battery/alternator as interior displays pulse slightly at idle, almost unnoticeable and alternator is pumping 14v ish.

Any help/ advise appreciated. I'm thinking cam/crank sensor? Don't know why it would be perfect then not, unless it was over boosting?

Help!

Sorry forgot to say, actuator rod for turbo sits midway at idle then moves in under boost. Only returns to farthest out setting when engine switched off and vacum released.

Thanks

If the crank sensor fails the rev counter will sit at zero and the EML will be lit while the car still drives in limp mode for this engine and ECU.

Really need to clear the codes and see what comes back on a DTi.

Yes thanks for that, code reader is on order I will report codes once it arrives. It has also been suggested that the swirl flaps?!? Might need cleaning. Is this a big job? Kinda worried about disturbing injector pipes etc and her not starting up ever again!

I recieved my generic code reader today, but it shows no codes stored. I am a bit suspicious as there is an eml when cold and glow plugs in operation, so that should show up as stored. So no farther on. Grrrrrr!
