Breather Tubes
« on: 13 May 2013, 13:26:39 »

There are 4 tubes from the back of the plenum.

According to the guide on cleaning the breathers, the smaller tube and the Y shaped tube should be removed and cleaned along with the breather box.

What about the fourth tube? Where does it go and should it be cleaned? If so can it be cleaned in situ by squirting carb cleaner down it, or should it be removed first?

Both the larger tubes go into the " Y " and this then feeds down into the metal breather box.remove this pipe completely and give it a total clean out with carb cleaner finishing off with a good rinse out with water and left to dry ...properly.The large metal feed pipe on the metal breather also should be checkecd to ensure it is not blocked and dig out any old crud etc.If you intend doing an oil change straight after ( which is recommended ) it is also advisable to give the pipe afew squirts with carb cleaner and let it drain through.

Small L/H pipe feeds down to the smaller outlet on the metal breather box.Again remove this pipe and clean thoroughly with carb cleaner and leave to dry.The small brass coloured outlet pipe on the breather box should have a thin piece of wire/paperclip or similar pushed into to ensure it is not blocked.Quick squirt of carb cleaner into that as well if you are doing an oil change straight away.

Small R/H pipe goes to the carbon cannister purge valve. With care it can be removed from the valve but be carefull you don,t snap the small plastic pipe it fits onto.I tend to leave this pipe alone as it is related to the carbon cannister in the front wing area and is the least likely to block ,although for total thoroughness it can be removed and again cleaned.

The carbon cannister vent pipe can be considererd as self clenaing due to the fact it gets a burst of fuel vapour through it at regular intervals.

Thanks for the replies :y

I know what to do now.

Just struggling with the clip on the large pipe at the breather box end. Don't seem to have the right tool to get it undone.
