Salt
« on: 16 May 2008, 13:40:37 »

Don't know about you guys and gals, but I've always liked a bit of salt in my food. Recently, this fad for a low-salt, or even no-salt, diet has been getting on my nerves. I used to use a great chicken seasoning (Schwarz), until they brought out a new low-salt version and it is, well, absolute rubbish. Still the scientists and quacks know what's best, don't they?

...or do they?

I stumbled across this bit of news which came out today:

"Contrary to long-held assumptions, high-salt diets may not increase the risk of death, according to investigators from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University. They reached their conclusion after examining dietary intake among a nationally representative sample of adults in the U.S. The Einstein researchers actually observed a significantly increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease (CVD) associated with lower sodium diets. They report their findings in the advance online edition of the Journal of General Internal Medicine. (Albert Einstein College of Medicine)"

 :o :o

Another fad hits the bin?  ::)

It could be another fad thats a way for suckers to pay money to buy a book on low sodium diets.

All I know is a balanced diet is the way to go, don't take too much but don't cut it out either.

With the exception of tobacco, I say anything in moderation won't hurt you!

Give me a bit of salt anyday!  Cannot do without it, but do not over indulge either. :y

I do not follow any of these fads as they always cost you more money, do not do any good, and then are found to be flawed in months/ years ahead! ;D ;D

I am not keen on salt - it is too salty - there is enough in food without adding it

Those were the days Richie! :y  Bacon & eggs or full English breakfast cooked in lard; steamed puddings; milk puddings; beef dripping on bread; full sugar jelly, triffles and sticky desserts with custard;  how those memories come floating back and, although you found them "yuk" I loved them in good old 1950s/60s Britain! :y :y

I don't like salt on chips - they need tomato sauce!
