Brake light Madness

Hi,my brake light warning came up on the display so I changed the offending bulb on the left and the other side next time I drove the car the warning was up again.I asked a friend to tell me which side was out he said the left so I changed it again,driving home from work you guessed it brake light warning again on the left. Whats happening???

TBs right - paticularly if you got them from Halfords!!
Generally Vx or Ring bulbs ok - there may be others too, but not Halfords ;)

mate had same problem on his Alfa--he went to Halfrauds too ::)

Moral is Do not get bulbs from----Halfrauds :y

I had a similar frustration but it turns out not to be the bulb.  The bulb holder was the problem, in particular the metal strip at the bottom of the holder that makes contact with the bulb had become flattened rather than standing proud to act as a spring and ensure contact with the bulb.  Worth a look.  I just lifted the metal up slightly with a pair of long nosed pliars.

I believe the brake light warning system is a reed relay which compares the current taken by the two stop light bulbs. I imagine Halfords bulbs differ from other makes by enough to trigger the reed relay. So If you buy at Halfords, but 2 bulbs and change them both.

Thats what the op did - changed them both ;)  But op has not responded to make of bulbs fitted.
