Diesel Problems; Please Help
« on: 26 May 2013, 23:03:54 »

Having some issues with my 2.2 dti. When accelerating there is a slight miss miss with the turbo, alongside this there is a whistling noise when revving about 2500rpm. At first I thought the turbo had had it, but had a mechanic check it out and he says the turbo is fine and cant establish a reason as to why the car is behaving this way.
Could there be a link to the EGR valve? Slightly worried as I'm going away with the caravan in a couple of weeks and would hate to break down.

p.s. There is an oil leak from somewhere near the bottom of the engine, haven't established where exactly its coming from, but could this be linked to my problems?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi, I am no expert on diesels but whistling on a turbo car is often an air leak between the turbo and the engine somewhere. Can be hard to find, especially if it is small.
Sure  someone with more experience of these engines will be along to give you an idea of where the likely leak is.

Hi, check all your vac pipes, also the rubber elbows on the vac pipes as if they are gone they will let air in. the one at the back of the head is a sod to get to but gets hot back there and is normaly the first to go. you can pop the EGR off in about 5mins so have a look and clean carbon off it at the same time, you will see the inlet manifold has a lot of carbon inside aswell but that would take you a few hours and two new inlet manifold gaskets. you can check the EGR valve is working when you have it out just hold it to you face and push the piston in, it will suck one side and blow the other, they are not electronic on the Omega. there is a valve on the turbo that goes but can't remember the name at the moment, do a searh and have a good read i know i have seen it. hope this helps :y

Thanks!  Car has 168,000 on it. The leak seems to be coming from the drivers side, from somewhere under the alternator. Could it be an oil pressure switch?

Turbo side !!! Take the tray off under the car if it is still there and clean off old oil on side of engine and check the turbo drain pipe for leaks, oil cooler and filter are on the other side of the engine. The EGR valve is on top of the inlet manifold right side as you look from the front, you will need to undo the 4 Torx screws that hold the black plastic cover on and the EGR is under that and has a round black plastic top to it with a torx screw each side and a vac pipe on the rear, once vac pipe is pulled off and torx removed it will lift out :y

Also check all the rubber pipes from tubo all the way round to the pipe that goes to the EGR on the inlet manifold, you may have to take them off to have a good check  :y
