Door check strap
« on: 08 June 2013, 15:42:53 »

Is the door check strap on the drivers side easy to change and is it only available from a dealer anyone know the part number and roughly how much as mine is about to seize and break I think it's making horrible noises when I open the door thanks

Try replacing the small plastic door strap bush first - worked for me on a couple of Omegas - look Here   :y

Always worth replacing a 19p part first as a possible cure, or if not moves diagnosis on to door as you suggested.  Op said door noisy - that is also a symptom of a nackered bush ;)

I know, but you don't need to buy anything to look at the front edge of the door  ;) ;) ;)

As I open or close the door there are three indents on the strap and its making the noise as it goes over these so guessing the wheels on the inside of the door have seized so looking at it it means a new strap and there 2 bolts that hold it to the door buy the looks

Look at the guide. The doors rip out at the leading edge where the strap is bolted, this is often the cause of the noise. You may be lucky, & you just need to replace the plastic bush at the pin on the A post.

But the door is stiff to open or close when I get to the indents even A pillar flex when it passes them and nearly jamb myself with the corner of the door as it stops lol

for the sake of changing a bush that costs pennies I'd do it. I did it and it worked for me!

Told ya!  ::)  ;)  ;)
They'll all have to get the bits in I would think ..... GM don't/didn't exactly shout about the door fault. Arm yourself with part numbers though (are they on the how-2-do? :-\) otherwise you'll be met by blank looks.
The check strap on my car was actually fubar'd too - lying in the bottom of the door, might be worth having a proper look at yours just in case you need to order a new/getting A N Other  ;)

It's only just started so not all broke off part numbers are in the how to just wondered if it was easier to get Andy c to order them or phone the nearest dealer and ask them to order the bits then send the wife in to collect them  :y
