Price for scrap steel
« on: 12 June 2013, 13:36:14 »

If anyone is interested I have just taken 900kg of good clean steel off cuts to the scrap yard. Got £130. Think prices are pretty low at the moment.

You are right of course. I am just a little peeved that last time I got £230 for an Omega and about £200 for the last lot of steel off cuts.

Still the copper made it up a bit  :y

As for alloy, 220kg = £154  :-\

I guess if you have the time and space, you can play the market a bit, only selling each material when demand pushes the price up :-\

If thats the model with the build-in electric meat slicer, the copper will push the price up a bit.  :o :P ;D ;D

Scrap prices are determined mainly by the Chinese,so as the world market is slow China dosnt need the scrap, just look at heaps at the docks waiting for the price to go up.

I rang around a few yards at the weekend as I had 9 alloys to get shot of. Was quoted 65p a kilo by most then the last said 88.8p a kilo, needless to say I was round there like a shot to pick up £88

I think the first ones were trying it on quoting for a lower grade of ally than wheels
