Outside door handle
« on: 14 June 2013, 13:58:34 »

I have just fitted a new solenoid to a front door which is operating ok but the outside door handle rod has come away from its location. Can anyone try to explain to me where it goes and what I have to dismantle to do it. The inside handle is working ok. Pictures or drawings would be a big help.

Think I may have done it  The end of the threaded rod with a plastic nut fits into a green hole ? Fitted by feel cant see much in there espec :'(ially with your hand in the way. Putting it all back now and hope for the best

having done the job a couple of points   on my v6 f/l the speaker needs no attention  unless my speaker isnt wired up,it is not neccessary to take out the switch cluster unless you want to remove the card completely. As it is very difficult to see inside the door I found that to attach the rod which comes up to the lock pin it was best to have the lock mechanism loose(not bolted in) fit the rod and then bolt in the Lock mechanism. As far as releasing the multiplug the cable was very short and I had to release a cable support from the base of the door to get the solenoid high enough to get a hold on it. Can you tell me which models have side air bags?

..... Can you tell me which models have side air bags?

I think it's more of an age thing rather than model specific. My 99 miniface lift has them  :y

Have been reading up a bit about airbags and the need to have a good seal on the door membrane to make air tight. How can this be done with the lock knob lever going through it.

It can't be completely airtight, too many things are screwed & bolted through it .... and there's a gap at the top where the window winds up & down. I think it works more like when you pop a crisp packet by slapping the closed end, it wasn't air tight, but was was air tight enough to burst the seal at the other end.  ;)

Thanks for the link to tunnies method. There seems to be a lot of dismantling which I would have thought unnecessary but it does help to see the whole mechanism and where everything goes.
