Some time ago I read a letter from someone that said supermarket diesel lacked something and this could cause issues? Is this true?
It's just that 3 months ago my engine management light came on after a long motorway run, it went into what I believe is called "limp mode" just as I came off the motorway, which is very apt as it struggled up-hills etc all of the way home (28 miles). Next day it seemed fine & the light was off BUT as I was worried it went into the agents and they "replaced pipe from BO EPPC to valve as it had split and cleaned and refitted the plug to boost the EPPC as it was corroded" (?).
But, yesterday, once again, I did a long run (225 miles each way) and on the way back (just before getting onto the motorway) it happened again (it sort of "coughs" not exactly a misfire then just no real response to the accelerator). Although I suspected that stopping & starting the engine may clear the problem there was also the danger it also may just not restart (200 miles from home with my dog in the boot!). So, I drove past several services with the car struggling at 40 uphill (no fun through the Lakes!), and at 60 on the flat despite my foot being fairly hard-down, occasionally getting to 70-80 downhill – it would respond to the accelerator for a while but then lose power again.
So, I pulled into some services just 60 miles from home (guessed that if I had to call my breakdown service and they wouldn’t let the dog into the cab 60 miles wasn’t too far for him!). I turned off the engine, took the boy for a leg stretch, started the engine again (10 minute break) – started fine, is fine now – have been on a 150-mile round trip today (I do do lots of miles).
So, question, any ideas? Is my driving to blame? Could it be the EGR valve? Do I need to get it into the garage straight away or I’ll ruin the engine? HELP! I'd hoped that I'd get 200K out of her but she's only got 93K on the clock!

I have no idea, it has gone into the main agents for regular services, would they do it?

probably-wonder if they cleaned out breathers though

No idea. I have a smallish garage near where I work who have just done my track-rod end for £70 instead of the £170 quoted by the main agent!!! I'm going to ask them to do an oil & filter change, so should I ask them to change the fuel & air filters at the same time? Would it be a good idea to ask them to de-coke the EGR valve?
I've (we've) never had a diesel before this so I know nothing about them (I know a little but not too much about petrol engines, only what I listended to with my husband  )
Thanks for this. I can't do any mechanical stuff but like to know what's going on to make sure that I know when/what/why my car needs stuff doing.

if they do service-filters should be done-as so should breathers-depending on what service they doing and cleaning egr cannot hurt too

Fuel filter sometimes gets neglected as its out of the way and can be a bit of a pain to change sometimes.Main dealers are well known for this type of thing.A good service and EGR clean wont do any harm,and then if it still does the same get the codes read by someone who knows what they are doing - not usually a main dealer.

Edit.Not sure if the pedal trick works on the 2.2dti.If it does that would save getting someone to read the codes.

By the way, thanks so much for the replies. Feel more empowered now and will definitely get the stuff done as soon as. Will also now get my tyres changed and balanced at WIM at Ellesmere Port in future (much of my family in Chester so The Port is close by). Have had some strange tyre wear and read about the need to get the wheels "balanced" differently from other cars. Naively I assumed that the Agents would know what they were about (even though my husband - who was a paint-sprayer-come-mechanic - never rated them - only went there because the Omega was only 4 months old when we got it).!

there are people on here who can do your miggy-bit special really compared to other cars-so maybe you ask on here-we all love miggys-thats what we are about mainly-Its more a family than forum-pop into gen dis sometime

That is not WIM in Ellesmere port by the way.
They are a part worn tyre 'specialist' who happen to have the gear,
I once booked to use them through WIM, who immediately told me to go elsewhere (Bolton as it happens) and said they were striking them off their list.  Never come off the map for some reason though.

If you are coming this way for alignment, there is a place called Buckley tyres I trust to do the job more, I do specify my own values though, as they will just go 'in the green' by default.

Jimbob. Thanks for that. I work in Wrexham and go by Buckley area quite often so that's good, thanks. However, I have no idea what the "values" and "green" mean.
