Fired up the project 2.0 this morning - started first time and sounded ok at idle.
Took it for a spin - OK for a bit, then an awful misfire to the point it nearly wasn't drivable, it wouldn't take any load. Stopped at halfrauds - looked at HT leads again - indeed they were knackered. So it needed leads.
Halfords wanted £29 for a set of their own 2.0 leads.. hmm...expensive, me thinks, on a £100 car! So markie and I start opening other boxes...

... and find a set of leads that look very suitable (same connector at DIS end, and good insulator on the plug and decent length) - £10.99. Not sure what car they were meant for, but they did the job nicely on the Meega - so fitted them, happy in the knowledge I'd just saved another £20 on the project (Am I a Pikey or
what?)

However - Once fitted the misfire went right away.

Was initially a bit top end rattly for a few miles (still is a tad) so I drained out the (tesco) oil that came with the car, popped on a new filter and filled with genuine GM 10 40 oil. A lot quieter, so a few frequent changes will cure that.
Coolant temp is stable, got rid of one airlock and pressure doesn't seem OTT anymore.
Autobox - thank the lord it was just crying out for a bit (lot!) of fluid, and is now operating totally normally now it's had a top up!
I drove 125 miles in her today, and didn't miss a beat, or lose any fluid, so I think it's project sucess. Over the course of that trip I got exactly 35mpg driving carefully, all dual carriageway or A roads. Not bad, but I would have expected closer to 40mpg under such conditions (I'd easily get that from other 2.0 Omega's I've owned). It also feels a little down on power even for a 4 pot, and The EML is still on. Seems the lambda hasn't sorted itself out, so I'd imagine this is accounting for loss of power and MPG.
I'll get on ebay and get one, then we should be good to go.
