Bentley the next car?

Since I was young I have been impressed by Bentley's and always thought I could own one, more than a Rolls Royce.  The other car I wanted was an Austin 7, Baby Austin.  Two extremes!! :D :D :D :D

Now that bug has started again, and I am looking at old Bentley's from the 1980s/90s. Big and heavy, with turbo 8 litre engines.  One I am tempted with is this, amongst many, on Autotrader:

The finish in these cars, as always, is stunning!  A real home on wheels :) :)

Does anyone know the running costs of these i.e. Tax, Insurance, servicing, new tyres, etc?

Not worried about mpg as having now owned a 3 litre Omega for some time, even 10mpg would not be too bad!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

Lot of car for no money,someone told me that the exhaust system on a turbo R was circa £1700 a few years ago,don't know if that is less now or not ???

I note that the estimate for me for insurance is just around £400 per year!  Cheaper than for my miggy! :o :o ;D ;D ;D

Most probably because they work it out no boy racer will have one so insurance is cheaper  :-\

Ive just checked and I've only done 5800 miles in 2 years in my 3.2, so the Mulsanne would suit me nicely. I like the idea, I may follow suit. Trouble is the 3.2 would have to go! :-\

Like you I like the Bentleys Lizzie - lovely, comfortable car to drive - great for long distance touring :y  Be bold, give it a go - a hell of a lot of car for the money :)

Indeed dbug, and I am looking.  Will it fit my garage; at 17 foot plus long I think the answer is no! ::) ::)  But who cares ;D ;D ;D ;D

It would fulfil a dream, but I just hope the dream would not turn into a nightmare.  I just love big cars, big engines, and ideally I would love one of those racing Bentley's in British racing green of the 1920's, but I could never afford one of those!  So the later Bentley's will have to do :D :D

I am going to keep looking and I am reading the info on the Bentley Owners Forum for advice and guidance:) :)

That rules me out then.I only have one working kidney as it is. ::) ;D
Running costs for a Benltley are collosal,but like anything ellse theres cheap(ish) ways round these things,but its never going to be a cheap hobby.I would imagine diy is possible as they are pretty low tech machines.Afaik the engines are pushrod V8,s ? and it doesn't get much more basic than that.Buying one wih LPG already fitted would make the fuel bill a bit less painful.
I believe brakes & suspension can be expensive,and have a hard time due to the cars weighing the same as a small battleship.
Service history is everything with a car like that imo.

Interesting that they have had so many owners, I wonder why? The Mulsanne has had 5 in 31000 miles!!!

People buy them, soon becomes apparent how much they are to run I guess  :)
