Breakdown Troubleshoot Help
« on: 23 June 2013, 18:51:46 »

Just broken down towing the caravan, battery light came on for a while, stopped, engine off, back on, still battery lifght, had to try pushing on, it then went off 10 minutes later, 10 minutes after that the tc and abs lights came on and off a few times. Then lost all dash instruments. Pulled over and switched off. Now won't turn over, also no battery light at all when ignition is on.

Recovery turned up and car starts with battery booster was idling high for a while now OK. Still no battery light when ignition on. And won't start when battery booster off the car.

I initially thought alternator but I'm not sure. All lights are fine, windows work fine no sign off flat battery.

Any help much appreciated

Does everything still work once the booster is removed, or does the engine cut out :-\

Does disconnecting the caravan wiring change matters :-\

Earthing? ::)

Suffered these exact symptoms a few times (after repeated mis-diagnoses by 'experts') >:(

Try securely connecting a jump lead from the battery NEGATIVE post to say, a manifold stud on the engine.
Will only take ya a few minutes, so give this a go, and see what happens.

Report back! ;)

Battery, reading 10.4v and drops when revved. If left long enough on idle. All instruments fail and engine won't rev. Its on back of truck now. Guys reckon alternator but I'm not convinced

99.9% sure alternator that's my guess, found mine went when I think I overloaded it. Wipers on lights on heater on rear screen on and various things pluged in like sat nav phones portable DVD players.
