Cavalier 1.7 td 180000 miles never gave a bother.

Mine has just gone past 150,000 .Takes everything in its stride and costs about the same to run as an old pushbike. :y

And alot less effort I reckon ;D

Got to say so far, the Insignia, and I've owned several Vauxhalls in the past.

I must admit though, I did enjoy my Carlton 3ltr Gsi 24v., did over 100k in that.

With the posh overdrive switch on a K plate. And a auto on a M plate

Is that a vx 490  :-\
:y
That's my choice too. Actually, that's my car in the picture - or at least it was!  :o Owned her for eight years and sold her to an enthusiast in Ireland in 2008. Equal 1st choice would have to be my Senator 24v. I know Miggys 'aren't allowed' but I loved my mini Facelift 2.5 CDX auto estate. Desperate to get another Omega now......

A mini review of the handful of Vauxhall's I've owned (small list, as every time I get one, I always swear it will be the last ;D)

1986 MK2 Belmont 1.8GLSi. Original engine was stonking, replacement was poor in comparison. Did about 20k in 3 months, sold it as I hated the thing.

1990 MK2 Astra GTE. Well specced, lovely engine, predictable (but poor) handling. A hoot to drive/slide. Bit of a ladies car in reality. Too much hassle to keep, as it was always targetted (by police, vandals, joyriders). Also started to rust when about 2.5yrs old  >:(

1983 Nova 1.2 LS. Very thrashable, though not as much fun as the Metro it replaced (it was originally Mrs TBs car). Infamously "found" it again in my garage a couple of years after she started getting lease cars. I struggled with height and seat position, so was happy to see back of it. For a 1.2 it shifted, and went around corners pretty nimbly as well.

1998 Omega MV6. "Silver Bullet". Speaks for itself, lovely car, bought at 88k in late 2003, now on 205k. Stunning car, if only Vauxhall could overcome their age old rust problem. I get a lot of pleasure driving this one, and it still is probably the best handling Omega I've driven. Love it.

1996 Omega 2.5V6 CD. Aka "The Heap". Also called TB1. It was OK, but 2.5 is too gutless for me, and not much more economical than the 3.0l. Had for a couple of months, was purely a project.

1998 Omega Elite TD, "TB2", aka "TRACTOR!". I loved that car. Most comfortable of the lot, and a whole heap of fun to drive (once it was chipped). Bought as a "simple" project to sell on, but it was a well known forum saga for months. I stupidly sold it when a member offered me the price I was looking for. Really sad to see that one go. Owned for 2yrs and about 20k.

2000 Omega Elite 2.5V6, Powerchipped with 3.0l cams. Bought in an emergency from a member, as I ran out of cars before a UK holiday. Called TB3, or Goldie/Golden Nugget. Never really got to get it as I wanted it, as about a month (or less) after I bought it, it decided to throw in the towel after a ragging up the motorway. Broke for spares, many of which I still have. Gay colour, and a poo brown steering wheel. Gay.

2003 Omega Elite 3.2V6. When it plays nicely, its the Grey Dart. Invariably its TBE - That Bloody Elite. Its fair to say we haven't really gelled in the 3yrs I've had her. Bought at 54k, done about 74k now, as its now a daily car since smashing up the Rover.

3.0 24V Carlton Diamond in metallic blue L510 VAT
 :-* :-* :-*

Mrs Egg just mentioned a 2.0 CDX Omega - M reg - we owned for just under a year
That thing was unkillable. Bought it from egay for about £300 with a couple of months MOT, collected from a pub car park where it had been stood (he claimed) for 6 weeks - covered in leaves, and weeds growing up the wheels!
Started first turn, and continued to start, and drive, perfectly, every day - loaded up with books, and pulling a big trailer full of bookcases+books for our market stall.
Passed MOT first time with (I think) a couple of advisories.

Knacked the wishbones going over speed bumps with a full load in - scrubbed a newish set of front tyres bald on one run Leeds>East Mids Airport and back - and could only put 40L in the fuel tank, otherwise it leaked.
Had the key snap in the ignition barrel, and knacked the switch when replacing it - then the garage (who shall remain nameless, Lee Motors of Middleton Lane, WF3  :-X) hammered the steering wheel back on away from the spline whilst replacing the switch.  >:(

Ran a pallet of books to a stately home on the outskirts of Edinburgh and back for less than £50 of fuel (steady 60ish both ways).

Ended up selling, for the same £300 with a month's MOT, to get a van - possibly to someone on here - a lawyer from coventry? Definitely an enthusiast.
The van broke down four times in a month, and cost me almost the same in repairs as I paid for it (£500 ish), and I still regret getting it, as it was the start of the decline of the business  :(

But, apart from the transit I have now, that mig was easily THE most reliable vehicle I've ever owned.

I loved my 1957 Victor Super bought for £15 when I was a student in Pompey.  Just like a miniature Chevy with chrome everywhere, even on the dashboard.  Totally reliable and virtually no rust (most unusual).  With a bench front seat, column gear change and handbrake lever under the dash it was a useful passion wagon too.  Unfortunately a wayward Westminster wrote it off in Southsea one wet night so it was replaced with a 1961 Consul 375 which also cost £15 those where the days!
