Some MPs are probably worth more than 65K a year, to be honest. A lot of the more junior back benchers certainly don't have anywhere near the sort of experience which would command that type of salary in industry / business, though.

Of course, I'm assuming they work the same hours as a senior person in private sector industry on that salary might.. we never find out how much work they do or don't do, but it srikes me that the commons is not exactly bursting at the seams unless there's a lot of childish jeering on the menu... They must be doing an awful lot in their constituencies..

Then there's the question of the value of all the other benefits they get.. Expenses, Second homes, pensions, etc. Are they just cost neutral provisions required to do a unique job, or actually ridiculously generous perks compensating for the "low" pay? I hope the report looks into that...
I wonder how many of them are holding up second and even third jobs and wonder if I could do the same if I was putting in an
honest 65K worth with my main employer...

I think I'd like to see a clocking-in machine installed to find out if they are super-human, slackers or just worth it for all the vested interest they can apply to grease the wheels of power.

In terms of sending a message to the public, it's poorly timed, but, of course, it's independent, so sorry - nothing they can do about that than suffer having their snouts rammed further into the trough.
