hi all,
many thank you's for the ideas  :y. Its been a few days now, and am waiting for the car to be "read", but what happened just seemed like a one off, but better be safe than sorry. Its started within a turn of the key, so it does seem like it was the locking system, but am having it checked out next week, as I will be going away on holiday for a few days, and do not fancy coming back to a "non starter" :(

Peter

Have you done the 'pedal trick' on your car? It might just show you a crank sensor fault.  :y
not as yet Andy

It'll take you a couple of minutes. Easier to do it at your convenience rather than the car die again at some other in-convenient time.  ;) ;) ;)

Not sure if it is me but the op said that it did zilch zero nothing, not turned over but failed to start so from that I would say it is not the crank sensor, but more likkey an imobilser fault or even a poor battery connection. If the car had tried to start as in engine spins over on the starter but failed to start then I would agree but he also needs to get the codes read first.
Can the op please confirm the symptoms .

If it was an immobiliser fault, wouldn't stop engine turning over 8)  Just would't fire and light would flash

As stated by me and others - ctrank sensor ;)

the car did turn over, but failed to start. But its ok now, I put it down to inadvertently pressing the key fob, as have done the pedal test, with nothing coming up. But have a good mate who has a couple of code readers, and he said he will "give it the once over".
As of today (fri) its been all ok, touch wood

well its a v6 and 2.6---so odds are-------what----crank sensor---

:( Well it happened again today, and have done the "pedal test", and guess what? its only showing 335
so guess I had better get a sensor. Easier said than done tho, am going way for a few days abroad next tues, I just hope she starts when I get back, had no problems since the last time tho. Shit happens, as they say
