Bit puzzled why you have not had a look at the 53 plate CDX on here from omegod. I would have thought that Volvo would have used a fair bit of juice. My 2.6 is quite economical.

Thought that Omega omegod has for sale was involved in an accident with a car wash  not 100% sure though. But yes why not go for something like that then

Hi guys, to elaborate I have recently picked up a mint 2.2 in need of some mechanical love from an old friend , this was the one sadly damaged in the car wash   The lovely champagne 2.6 is still here and ready to go to a new home !

I forgot about it - looked in the "for sale" forum a couple of days ago.

Good looking car, good price.  But it's in Liverpool and I'm in Suffolk - it would take me two days to get there and two days to get back - I can't do long drives any more - too old, too decrepit.  OK - we're going to Scotland for our hols, but planning 2 overnight stops each way.

Same thing goes for 3 of the 5 cars suggested by Del Boy.

The Volvo uses diesel juice - much cheaper.  Had a 960 once - on a good day. on a run, I'd get about 22mpg - needed it's own tanker.

TBH, I'd feel much happier buying from a local dealer, even if I have to pay a bit more.

No, I haven't decided anything yet.  As I said somewhere else, it's the rust and the clunk from underneath (which may be as simple as worn out exhaust rubbers) that make me want to get rid of the car.

I can't imagine you'll get much of a waranty on a 14 year old car.....It'll probably amount to the dealer sucking air through his teeth and slowly shaking his head. ........along with "what do you expect from a car this age"...

My beautiful MV6 came from a forum member. For an extra £75 he delivered it to me..........Manchester to North Lincolnshire.

Takes away a lot of the hassle.

Interesting list.  Funnily enough, I looked at a Merc today, but he wanted too much money.  Anyway, they all look like taxis to me.  As with BMWs, all their cars are somewhat spartan, not to say basic, until you get a long way up the range, and then they become prohibitively expensive to buy and maintain.

Nothing else on the list is likely to fall within the appropriate age/price range.  Except for a Jag.  Fortunately, I didn't come across any on my ride round today, 'cos I'm awfully fond of Jags.  Mind you, were I to get one, my wife would kill me - she remembers the last one I had. 

Also noticed the Ford Scorpio there - can't be many of those around.  I had a 2.8i Granada GLX (I think), followed by a 2.8 GL (bought new - couldn't afford the i or the X) and then a Scorpio 2.4 GL in succession - lovely cars, but not as good as the Omega.  Scorpio wasn't as nice as the Granadas.

Absolutely no disrespect meant to any member of this forum, but I would hesitate to buy a car I haven't seen in the flesh, as it were.  The paintwork colour might clash with delicate grey colour of my eyes.

Volvos have some nasty issues with the drive-by-wire throttles around this sort of mileage which will leave you in a similar position as you are with your ABS ECU, except you'll have the additional irritation of wrong-wheel-drive.
