Suddenly Mosquitos
« on: 10 July 2013, 00:56:15 »

A week the upstairs windows have been open in the warm weather, and I've been aware that I have not been bitten once at night, and not seen any in the house at all.

Tonight however, there's about a dozen of them in the bedroom. Immediately fried with the electric tennis bat... Mwaaahahahaaaa

...but who/what woke the little barstuards up? Is it turning more humid? :-\

Do you or a neighbour have some standing water around, like a pond with no filtering or even a bucket of water just standing there. This will help the little blighters breed. Had similar problem a few years back.

Now my pond is filtered properly and I leave no standing water and very rarely get any mozzies.

Even bird bath type things if not cleaned out daily will help them breed.

If you find any standing water, tap the side and you will see the mozzy lavae swimming around.

Absolutely to all of the above, I have a water butt collecting rain water in the garden.

In addition, they are attracted to light, so don't leave a light on with window open at night.

Not sure what else it could be then sorry. Did not think humidity had much to with it but I could be wrong (probably wrong)

Oh any kids paddling pools been left filled for a week ? When we had our paddling pool a few years (10 years) back we had to put chlorine tablets in it to stop the little blighters.

There seem to be a lot of mozzies around this year. Unfortunately, I live about 100m from a balancing pond and the river Blackwater so there is plenty of water for them to breed in.  :(

As I've got older my body has an increasing bad reaction to mosquitos bites, so I have to use anti-histamine cream.  :(

Ukraine is even worse, where the mother-in-law's house backs onto a small river and pond. They are bigger and so is their bite.  :( :(

Unfortunately, mosquitoes are attracted to me and my small girl so we both get lots of bites, but my wife never gets bitten!  :( :(
