2.5 V6 Estate exhaust system
« on: 15 July 2013, 19:49:27 »

Hi All,
I'm expecting my 1996 estate to fail its MOT on Wednesday due to corrosion on the exhaust system, the flanges on the front sections with the cats being particularly bad - I've also had some fibre glass? strands coming out of the back box recently so suspect thats breaking up internally too.  As I may have to replace the whole system I was wondering what systems are currently recommended, ie:
1) are there any cheap aftermarket ones out there worth having?
2) are any stainless systems recommended?
3) are genuine GM systems still considered to be the best (I've heard thet the quality wasn't what it was with these)?
4) does anyone, particularly in North Devon have a system to sell?

Also, is some or all of the system for the estate different to that for the salloon?

Lastly, can anyone give me some ideas of what a reasonable system is likely to cost (possibly using a TC card, which I don't have yet) - I fear the answer to this question  :'(.

Thanks for any advice offered.

I have a 1996 3L estate in South Devon which I am considering breaking.  I replaced the exhaust on it not too long ago with one from Poland.  The appearance and quality was good, if you are interested I will take some photos to show condition.  I'm near South Brent.

The saloon and estate exhausts are not the same.  The only difference between the 2.5 and 3L is the back box which has 2 outlets on the 3L.  It fits just the same.

Interesting...  I thought that at least the front section with the cats was the same for both saloon and estate?

Correct, front downpipes for 2.5/3.0 are the same. 2.6/3.2 differ in that they have a pre-cat as well as a main cat

I fitted a cat-back genuine GM exhaust to my 2.6 V6 saloon 2 years and 3 months ago. It cost me about £300 and rusted through in that time.

I have just fitted a cat-back system from Poland (ETS). Cost me £75 plus £21 postage.

The materials and workmanship seems good but it is noisier. I'm not sure whether that is because the tailpipes are too short to clear the bumper or because I bought the one with twin tailpipes (ie the one for the 3.0 litre)
