Omega sl shocks on monza
« on: 16 July 2013, 00:03:14 »

Hi. Im fixing my old 86 Opel Monza gse. Need new rear shocks. It has a self levelling system that its impossible to find the right shocks for. Could go for standard shocks but was wondering if omega self levelling shocks might work? The system looks very similar. And wouldnt the Monza levelling sensor adjust the omega shocks to the correct height anyway suposing they are at least remotely similar in lenght? The weight of the Monza is around 1500 kgs so just slightly lighter than an omega. Will ofcourse have to check that the lenght of the shock is somewhat in the right range, but is it a fair asumption that it would work, or an i missing something?

Not familiar with Monza but sounds a fair bet. Might have to pinch some omega air line connectors if the fittings are differant.

Lotus Carlton use omega sl shocks as well, as thier oe ones aren't available.

I wonder if a chat with Andyc is worth while just to check they are broadly similar?

Re the ride height, the pump will keep pumping until it sees the ride height it wants so should be fine on that front I would think.

Omega saloon self-levelling shocks will work on Monza.

Omega caravan self-levelling shocks will not

Anyone who has fitted omega sl shocks to Monza/senator got some advice about how to fit Them at the lower end? Omega has a bolt that runs through the hole in the shock, Monza got a fixed pin the shock slides onto with just a nut at the end. The bolt hole in the omega shock is just slightly to narrow to slide onto the Monza pin.

Spacer on the bottom of the chock comes out of the rubber iirc. Or the one i saw that came loose was knackered. :-\

Can it be swapped with the spacer off old ones?

Or drilled out?

Old ones didnt have spacer. Just a rubber donut and a washer. Thinking about drilling but needs BIG drill. Must check tomorrow if the spacer can be worked loose.
