2.0 CDX Engine removal & Refitting
« on: 16 July 2013, 22:20:21 »

Well after removing the air filter, cleaning the breather pipes my 2.0 CDX is still putting out blue smoke when hot, so it now appears as if it is my first fear of worn rings/engine wear, I have sourced another 2.0 engine which I am picking up tomorrow evening, does anybody know how difficult removing and fitting the new engine will be ?, and would it be easier to remove with the auto gearbox still attached to the engine ?, if anyone has done this job before I would really appreciate any advice..

Many thanks

Terry

To be honest not that hard but I have done a few in the past . First omega I did I labelled each connector up from number 1 on masking tape just to make it easier when 're fitting . Just move the wiring loom to one side uf u leave gearbox in car . Good luck plenty of help on here for you .

Four pot engine not that hard to remove. As said, label things, but also take pics which you can refer to if you get stuck.
Probably easier to lift the engine/box out together imo. :y

Hello everyone, the latest on my 2.0 CDXi Omega - Unfortunately it is not good news  :( , last week I picked up a 85,000 mile replacement 2.0i engine, it came out of a manual Vectra but the Vauxhall fitter confirmed after checking that the engine details were the same that it would fit in an auto Omega, so with that information I bought the engine, today we begun the job of removing my old engine, once removed we begun fitting the ancillaries to the new engine, that was when we hit major problems, the sump was totally different and would not fit in my rear wheel drive Omega engine bay, so we removed the sump on both engines, we were met with horror :'( , the crank etc was different, so here we were with 2 engines in bits, my one with it's smoking engine and the new one that wouldn't fit in my car.... So now my poor old Omega is now sitting down the side of a garage with no chance of running any time soon (I have spoken with Steve the spares fella and although he was his usual helpful self he did not have a 2.0 litre engine that would fit into an automatic W registered (2000) 2.0 litre). So here I am asking "does anybody know where I can find myself a low mileage 2.0 Litre engine that will go straight into my Omega ?

Drop a 2.2 in and transfer the 2.0 ancillaries (sensors, camcover etc)

Thanks Rob - Will the 2.2 run okay with all my original 2.0 ancillaries, ECU on board computer etc ?

Yup I'd go 2.2 as well, little bit more torque. I'd keep an eye out for breakers here, then you know if the engine has come from a working donor :)

Thanks Tunnie, I'll keep on looking, would you mind letting me know if you hear of an engine that becomes available, just don't want my car to sit there and rot at the rear of a garage  :(

Thanks for your help & advice
