finding a second hand car on the web.

anyone recommend any websites for buying/selling 2nd hand cars?

Looking at:
ebay
autotrader
gumtree

any others worthwhile?

Preloved, bargain pages, Friday free Ads, auto exposure ( I think  :-\ )

Not impressed with the internet as a car purchasing medium.

You can find the perfect car, but it's 385 miles away, whereas everything in your immediate vicinity is a pile of motorised crud.

Mind you, I didn't do much better by visiting all the car dealers I could find locally.

I went 160 miles on the train to get my last Omega , the train ride was pants but the car was well worth the journey  :)

It would have to be *really* at the ends of the country to be 385 miles from me...
but you're right. they are.

Found, so far, one in inverness (382 miles). one in sheerness (236 miles), one in plymouth (315 miles).
oh, and one in north wakefield (3 miles  :D )
