2.2 Operating running temperature
« on: 30 July 2013, 15:51:52 »

Hi,

Sorry if this has been covered before.

Just wondered what the correct normal temp should be on the 2.2 ?

My temp needle likes to sit 90+ most of the time and reaches and sits at 95 before coming back down, is this normal or a tad to high?  ???

Could I have a thermostat issue?

Unrelated I think but my Air con isn't cold at all so I'm guessing there is a leak or needs a re-gas  :-\

Thanks in advance.

Paul  ;)

My 2.2 sits at 85, does this 99% of the time.

In heavy traffic, stop start stuff, occasionally reaches 90....

Hi Mark,

No idea to be honest, haven't had the car long.......... Most of the time she sits at 90 but does like to go up to 95 quite a lot and then will come down........ Have been checking coolant and no losses anywhere that I can see and level is always correct

Thats a little hot for my liking, both my 2.2 and fatherT's 2.2 will sit at 85 for normal driving conditions

Oh??  ???

What's your initial thoughts mate? Nice and clean red coolant in the header and no issues with Oil / mayo etc  :y

I was thinking of having the stat changed to see if that cured the temp gauge reading?  :-\

I'd be tempted to see what tech2 is reading, as the gauges are not very accurate.

Normally a sticky stat means it runs cool, 75/80, not fully opening.

Umm, not sure then mate.

Is it related to air con not cold? Poss air con leak as previous owner said he'd had a dye test done but nothing was found  :-\

My 2.2 air-con has not worked for years, FatherT's air-con also bust, that's why he is borrowing the 3.2, it has super cold air-con  8)

Between 80C and 85C in "normal" use here - on a hot day in traffic or on long steep hill sometimes hits 90C.

Just a thought but its prob unrelated. My header tank sensor is faulty as I keep getting the coolant level check on the display, related or not?

I've got new coolant and a header tank ready, may as well get the stat changed at the same time Ok Mark ?  ;)  :) ;D
