Advice on buying one
« on: 31 July 2013, 13:22:30 »

Hi im looking to buy a omega in the near future so any advice or what to look for would be great thanks. I'm aiming for a 3.0 or 3.2 elite which is best? Also notice that as they are cruisers most are automatic which im not to bothered but being rear wheel drive what are they like for drifting being auto? Do they have sport mode ? Thanks  :y

They have sport mode, allows them to rev higher.

3.0 can be had in manual form in MV6's quite rare to find a 3.0 manual Elite, the 3.2, is considerably worse on fuel than 3.0, although engine bay is a lot cleaner, less junk in there!

Has to be 3.2 post 2001....

Ok thanks so more likely to find a manual in the 3.0, is there much difference in the engines? They are so much car for little money I've always had a soft spot and finally gona get one  :) but yes I've had several rear wheel drive cars and like to have a bit of fun in the right conditions so would the auto be no good for this even in sport mode ? Thanks

Auto's still loads of fun, worth pointing out that all 3.2's will be auto. Only police got Manual 3.2's

What is the mv6 model?

I've not long got an MV6 3.2 Auto estate. This is my 4th Omega and its very different to drive from the others, I love it  :y  BUT MV6 is short of toys and extras, most do not even have a sunroof. MV6 are generally "sportier".

Elite, particularly earlier ones, have lots of toys but can be a bit cumbersome and dull to drive.

General advice get the youngest and lowest miles that you can. If it was me I'd be on the lookout for an 02 or 03 2.6 or 3.2 either CDX or MV6. I'm sure that many here will debate this in much greater detail  ::)

It's ONLY the Plod specials. Civvy 3.2's came with a proper 2 pedal gearbox, Plod ordered 3 pedals on some of their cars.
