 Decided to go swimming with the Miggy keys in his pocket 
The car starts fine so the chip is ok, just won't work the central locking, is it just a new (or secondhand)circuit board and then programmed via Tech2??

First thing to do is remove the battery to stop it corroding.

If there isn't too much corrosion on the PCB, I'd try washing in distilled water or alcohol, get it thoroughly dry, then a new battery and re-sync with the car. You might be lucky.

Failing that, most likely it just needs new buttons, I reckon.

You're not alone on that one. My brother-in-law lost his out of his pocket on the water slides at Quay West in Paignton. When he went back later to see if they had been found in the filters or handed in, they handed him a bucket with loads in and said to sort through that lot.  He never did find them. 

As said, probably best to let dry fully and then put new battery in.

Im with Kevin on this one, PCB's are quiet robust these days, managed to recover quiet a few boards with warm water and some fairy liquid, just gently hair dry afterwards or leave in a warm place overnight, as for switches try some switch cleaner then dry out again.

had a nokia 6150 many years ago that dropped out of my pocket and was submerged in a puddle for at least 5 mins, took the battery out, left the phone in the airing cupboard for about 10 days to dry out, when reassembled al worked perfectly. mind, it still worked after being bounced off the road by the ex wife some time later !!

I've never tried it, but they say that a bag of uncooked rice (not fried or boiled  ) is the way to dry out mobile phones etc

Be careful - most of the switches aren't actually switches at all - they are just little bits of ferrite encased in a thin rubber sheet moving close to a printed circuit "coil" & use something called the Hall Effect to sense that. It's the same technique used by the crank, cam & ABS sensors.
