oil filter paper element
« on: 31 July 2013, 18:56:51 »

I've removed the oil filter housing, how do I get the old paper element out. There is a metal plate with holes in it covering the paper element.

The element should just pull out of the cap   ???  ???  ???

There shouldn't be a metal plate  ???  ???

The entire housing :o

I assume you aren't referring to a spin on canister type filter, and have the wrong oil filter for your car?

No, there's a metal plate with a metal thread. Below it is the paper element

Is it all cast aluminium?

If so, the entire housing has come off, in which case you need to seperate the cap from the body, refit the body to block, then you can replace as normal.

Either get one from a breaker on here (very expensive new) or convert to spin on type filter (howto in Maintenance section)

I've got one here £15 plus postage  http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=114447.msg1444883#msg1444883

Nothing wrong with it, removed because I wanted a spin on again.

If it looks like the one pictured in the link below, put the whole thing back on as said above and try using a strap wrench to prevent the body from turning and a socket on the end cap. Should only be about 15Nm from memory.

You did well to get the canister off without removing the cap.  I'd expect the internal bolt to stay partly undone while the canister just slipped round it.
