removing drop link to change spring
« on: 09 August 2013, 17:28:24 »

Hi all

Just had a hell of a job getting the top bolt of the drop link off. The problem was that the bolt was rotating as I tried to undo the nut. Should it be doing this? Managed to remove by getting some plumbers pliers around the metal by the rubber grommet but am concerned I wont be able to get it all back together.

There should be a flat on the drop link sized for an open ended spanner to stop it spinning ;)

As above or possibly an Allen key or Torx hole in the end of the threaded part if they've been changed previously. I've only ever removed them to bin but I know what a sod they can be if they have no inner nut.  :y

When the thread spins, it twists the ball and gaiter but not sure if it ruins it. As said, I normally remove to bin, so I just pilot drill the nut in a couple of places and whack a small punch in one of the holes to split the nut.
