I've said it before........IF we were left to do what we were supposed to do "Traffic" jobs, It would literally be like you say Kevin 'shooting fish out of a barrel' Most of the time we are used as just being a 'fast panda' these days - domestics etc... because there isn't enough other bobbies on the beat!
Couple of weeks ago I managed a whole morning (Very rare) 3 hours on enforcement & went through 3 books on phones alone. Unfortunately the message isn't getting through and the penalties aren't tough enough, but the fine is going up to £100 shortly, as are all other fixed penalties.
On the other hand on a bad day (eg. the other day) had to arrest someone for no insurance (don't ask!

) spent over 3 hrs in custody

Simple RTC's can take hours to sort out - waiting for paramedics & recovery etc. and it is very frustrating, often leaving us feeling like we ain't done anything all day.
In an ideal world especially for traffic enforcement I'd love to be in a plain car (who does sommat they shouldn't in front of a marked up Beemer??) but we can't because we are told we have to be in a marked car. Annoying the amount of people I see when driving home on mobiles or texting
