Fuel Economy
« on: 17 August 2013, 11:44:41 »

Knowing that all Omega Owners are very fuel conscious, hence running V6 Migs, I though you might be interested in this. I recently bought a new Honda Izzy mower, and after using it a few times, I was surprised at how little fuel it seemed to use, so this morning I did a brim to brim check, and it used 350ml to mow my lawn, which takes me about 45 minutes, and is probably between a quarter and a third of an acre. I never measured the old  mower's consumption, but it was at least a litre and a half, possibly more.
I am very impressed.

Ass-u-me that the mower does 8mph?
45 mins = 6miles on 0.35l = 1/12 gallon

so by a *very* rough guess 72mpg?

course, if it's only doing a fast walk (4mph), you're only getting 36mpg

See if you can borrow the Top Gear Honda one and it will cut your grass on full throttle a bit quicker :o :o :o :o but you might not manage such good fuel consumption.  ::)

My old Honda mower - the model that predates the Izzy range - used less than half a cupful to do my lawns bits of grass, though tiny area to cut. I always thought it was frugal on fuel.

Presumably that is now distributed throughout the greater Brackley area? ::)

My current mower (1995 lawn king rescued from the skip when my little brother discarded it for being "broken" - cleaned the carb and filled with fresh fuel and off it went) is a bit more thirsty than the previous one, but it's a 21" blade as opposed to 16". I'm happy to pay the extra as it obliterates everything in its' path including prunings which are mulched up nicely ready to go to the tip.

The suffolk punch I'm not so sure on. Think it's only been out once this year, such is the state of my lawn. :-[
