back box replacement
« on: 18 August 2013, 20:02:30 »

Think I was quoted £80 for a back box fitted on my Omega, few questions,
1. for that price is it worth getting a second hand one that may well blow not long after fitting?
2. Is it easy to refit?
3. is that price good?
4. the car is a V6 i'm assuming this is straight forward and there are not different options for performance?

thanks all!

Try Eternal (on Fleabay) - back boxes are about £25 ;)

First question.

Are you sure its the back box, and not the mid section end where it clamps onto the box? As that's where they normally fail?

Hi absolutely positive put hand over end of tail pipe, been under and the hole on side of backbox is very obvious, it is not an immenant problem as it does sound rather like a V8 now  :)

Just weighing up the options really only ever removed an exhaust section on a mark 2 astra when I had to take sump off (I think).

Is a £25 backbox going to last a couple of years? Is it a good idea?

The Eternal / Neu car ones are pretty good quality and should last 2 years with ease  :y

You may find removing back box not as easy as it looks - rot normally around where back box joins intermediate silencers - may find you need complete system.  As said Eternal or ETS.

It's not a bad job, unless you've got serious rust problems, I had to completely smash the eff out of the old back box to prise it apart from the centre pipes. However I found that the eBay exhausts are more than durable  :y
