runaway
« on: 27 August 2013, 15:30:32 »

well sort of off, coming home yesterday on the motorway, pulled into centre lane to overtake, kicked down and suddenly without any input from me it roared away and redlined, then revs drooped and lost power, managed to pull safely to hard shoulder.  On stopping found engine still running and responding to throttle, EML light on though, checked everything and found no obvious fault, back onto motorway and off it went as normal, although a bit rough to start.

This morning started with short run no EML, followed bit longer run no EML parked for 20 minutes came out and since them EML is on.

Not done paper clip test yet, but any ideas of why?

car is F/L 2.0L running on Petrol when it took place

Throttle has stuck open for some reason, the pedal didn't get stuck under the carpet mat did it?

Does it have cruise control?

The only things that can actuate the throttle on the 2.0 is the throttle cable (i.e. your foot) or the cruise (if fitted), hence I wonder if during kickdown the cable or throttle pedal has stuck

well just done the codes and none the wiser, it flashes 10 times, then three then three which I think equates to incorrect RPM signal so what next?

And what comes after the 2nd 3?  Also, not that if multiple codes exist, you need to count them all (each one will repeat 3 times)

And after you've had 3 lots of 0335? (10=0)

is that the same as incorrect RPM signal? as that is what the code lists on the maint section

Yes and is the correct (and more useful/descriptive) one for the Vx setup

right so now we know what the code means can someone tell me what needs to be done, out of interest today when using car first off no light not until it got warm has the light come on, only think that I can notice is a very very slight sluggishness on move off apart from that it seems ok.

All advice welcome as I want to sort this.

Its pointing at the crank sensor, behaviour hints at this to (they are more liable to cause issues when hot)
