There are discussions on projects ongoing that I am reluctant to delete currently, although I agree fully with what your saying, on both fronts... ::) you did say you would NOT accept financial contributions from members towards the running of Oof.

So which is it?

What ever the answer, one way or the other, it will be in the negative. So lets just settle on the hypothetical and leave it there. Shall we? ;D

Why TB... Dedicated members who have fed off this forum,(like me) have little to give back,And want to contribute in some way..And the best way is to pay into the up keep of the forum that helps them maintain there car,

But we cannot do that because your old fashioned..Set in your ways..

And, very very busy, to be fair. ;) Which is probably more to do with it. Especially now with his "new garage" :y

Somebody has to sit down and physically account for every last bean. Then there's, I suppose, the sense of ownership that might follow, and therefor the idea that contributors have more say than they actually do. Perhaps? :-\

Management like a simple life. They like to put feet up and have everything happen around them. Which is fine, if your unpaid to do so.

On the other hand, and this is my thoughts, they should be paid or have some reward or benefit for the time and effort they put in. A contribution deserves a return. IMO.

But, seriously, I think 100 is an adequate limit. In fact, quite generous for a free resource  :-\

If it really isn't enough, and members can demonstrate that they are housekeeping PMs, we can discuss increases.

But with just shy of 90,000 PMs in people's PM boxes, increases could potentially/likely cause performance/stability problems.  Although the current software handles it more efficiently than the old software, the more in the system, the heavier the loading.

agreed

however, as financial conditions are tight for every country, I dont see any point in refusing some help for costs involved..  So I will gladly pay my share if you accept :y

I've tried this before, and it was not accepted, but would be quite happy to make a contribution. I understand that 'management' wish it to remain a free forum, with which I concur, but one off contributions for projects such as inbox memory should be acceptable. ??? :y

OK, I've had my fun. I was envisaging poor ol' Gixer in PC World asking to buy some disks and RAM, and a blank look on his face as he's then bombarded with questions about types, size, specs etc ;D.  I think we all know, despite all his wealth of talent and knowledge, very little of it lays with computing ::)

My own personal feelings, and not necessarily the view of the Admin Team, on the subject of donations or subscriptions are that it causes division that fractures the community.  Our members are more than capable of causing division without the admins building brick walls to assist ::)

Donations cause a problem in that it creates a conflict of interest when a donator steps outside the rules.

Subscriptions need to give something "extra" in order to entice members to subscribe. Those that wish not to subscribe therefore lose out, thus creating 2 tiers.  I've spoken at length about this before, so won't repeat, other than reiterate that everyone here is equal, from 77k post verterans to todays Newbies.

So, to clarify, I'm against the idea. But I am just 1 of 6 members of the Admin Team. So my thoughts count for abround 17% ;)

We have accepted a hardware donation from a member, sadly not on so much now. So to say donations are a complete no-no isn't entirely correct. If you work in the right arena and have access to certain parts that would otherwise be thrown out, or can be purchased (by OOF) cheap, we're all ears.  BUT it must not cost the member anything, and will have no impact on their membership/status here.

Lets hope you step into the world of my profession one day. Then we'll see who can win the "who can be the most arrogant" competition ;D

Valid points though. But still, only half the argument. ;)

It costs £22 each year, not a one off payment,  to become a member of the RX8 forum and it was shite, so I didn't sign Mrs Opti up to it.

Problem was this. The members that paid the £22 looked down on the 'browsers' (who were only allowed access to a small part of the forum) and treated them like lepers. :-\ :-\

The Mazda RX8 forum a two-tier society if ever there was one......*ankers. >:(

Personally I'd be willing to pay, but as TB states, it will cause as many problems as it solves. :y

Oi, Gayboy, don't bring me into your personal squabbles. I'm not paying a penny. In fact, the forum should pay me. :P

Have to agree, donations would create two tier setup. Only way would be if they were anonymous, then members cannot take the high ground.
