Have to agree, donations would create two tier setup. Only way would be if they were anonymous, then members cannot take the high ground.
But even then, some donators would potentially feel a sense of entitlement  :-\

Maybe, I guess some can say "I've donated, so bla"

Can't see how else you can do it though?  :-\

Have to agree with that, although one thought is a fee for listing item(s) for sale?

This is no dig at anyone here at-all, simply thinking ways forum could generate funds if needed. But people do generate money from the forum, be it a car, or a part. A small fee/charge to simply list an item?

That way it does not give any "high ground" - You simple pay to list in For Sale?

In theory, yes. But in practice that becomes 'I've paid to list summat, so I shall list what ever I want, regardless of it's relevance' :-\

Any such 'chargeable' item causes issues for the Forum as a whole, as you are then into the realms of running a business, which is a whole world away from the benevolent principles on which the Forum is based, and by and large, run :y

Very true, although you could state the fee is only to list Omega related parts, not a free for all.

There are some border line business items at the moment, such as the shop? I understand that helps fund the forum a little.

The shop may well be run as a separate entity, certainly the link to it takes you away from the Forum, also things like Tech2 services are justifiably chargeable, given the cost of the units, and the ability to use them to full and good effect :y

OK, I've had my fun. I was envisaging poor ol' Gixer in PC World asking to buy some disks and RAM, and a blank look on his face as he's then bombarded with questions about types, size, specs etc ;D.  I think we all know, despite all his wealth of talent and knowledge, very little of it lays with computing ::)

Lets hope you step into the world of my profession one day. Then we'll see who can win the "who can be the most arrogant" competition ;D
Opps, errr, yes, I can see it could come across that way, sorry if it did, that certainly wasn't my intention  :-[

You give me more credit than I deserve. As previously stated, I'm just one of 4/6 (depending on the subject being discussed).

Given the nature of the Forum, it would not be beyond the realms of possibility that all four sixths of you are of a broadly alike mind ::)

I believe they do on this subject, though not asked them recently.

I was planning a mini AGM for Newent, and as this had raised its head, was going to be on agenda. However time constraints pre-Newent, and on the night, made it impossible  :-[
