I recently bought a Sony MEX-BT3900U to replace my Phillips CCR2006 radio/CD which had the "infamous CD-Safe" sign showing, and went on to Fleabay to look for a facia kit for the single DIN unit.

I found a kit comprising Autoleads parts, this belief based on the sellers listing of Autoleads part numbers for each of the items listed which included,
1. A facia plate, Part FP-19-00/GM Gun Metal
2. An adaptor harness, Part PC2-36-4 Male to Female ISO Harness
3. A PC5-27 Aerial Adaptor
4. PC5-110 Removal Keys (to remove the double DIN radio).
All of the above priced at £9.99 including postage, which seemed inordinately cheap, given the cost of Autoleads parts fropm the likes of Halfords etc..

However, only the adaptor harness could be described as suitable and usefull!
The aerial adaptor fitted the button plug on the car but needed a bit of tape to hold it in place!

The removal keys did not work, I ended up using a bit of wire and a screwdriver to prise the old unit out(usual failure, they did not "catch" with the plates at the side of the radio).

Worst of all, the facia plate would not "mate" with the slots in the ABS plastic shroud which is part of the aperture into which the facia adaptor is fitted.
See the attached photo which shows the top edge locating clips photographed against an Autoleads facia bought from the local Halfords shop and which shows the "cheap" facia clips were wrongly positioned!
OOPs, seems I cannot insert photos, anyway, in words the top left and right clips were either side of a central clip but were only 57mm away from the central clip instead of 68mm, so the facia would not locate at its top edge.

As I am still in dispute with this seller, all I can say at present is if its cheap its probably not original(ie an Autoleads product).

Having spoken to Autoleads they advise that they are aware of a "small number of suppliers importing fake items from China and selling them showing Autoleads part numbers and stating they only sell products originating in the UK".
Incidentally the gunmetal facia, as bought, looked hideous in the dash, maybe because it was paint-sprayed a gaudy light-metallic grey! I actually fitted a black Autoleads facia adaptor which blends in rather well as the radio and its surround is also black(my dash is a dark matt grey colour).
Caveat emptor as our learned colleagues might say!!!! ???

Do you not have the car pass?

The price alone would tell me straight away it's not the real deal

My car pass shows a code for the radio only, under the CD Changer Code it only shows a forward slash, namely "/".

Following my original post(when I joined this Forum) I had a contact from Dave DND offering a re-program of the EPROM which controls the functioning of the CD/radio system comms software, but decided I would rather instal a Sony unit in preference to keeping a 12 year old unit.

In respect of the web page of the supplier, it identifies the parts using autolead/Connect2 codes and additionally states that "all parts are sourced from UK suppliers".

Having looked at other supplying web pages, their codes are specific to each individual supplier, i.e. different codes are used for ostensibly the same(in appearance and function) parts. The use of Autolead identification codes might be presumed to imply the supplier used and along with the "UK supplier" statement kind of reinforces the implication.

Hindsight, as they say, is 20:20 vision. The intent of my post is to provide others with this level of visibility!

Won't help in this case. Its a corrupted EEPROM.

I'll keep my comments on crappy Sony car audio to myself for now, as I'm sure the OP already feels robbed on the adapter kit, without me starting on at the headunit  :-X
