Which Omega Would You Buy?
« on: 12 September 2013, 20:56:14 »

Hi all.

I'm saving up for my next Omega. I have few questions for you which will help me decide what sort of miggy to get. Here goes:

1. Why did you pick the Omega/s you've got now?
2. Did you regret your choice and if so, why?
3. If you haven't got an Omega now then why not?
4. Which Omega engine is best/worst?
5. Is a leather interior better than cloth?
6. If your current car got written off and you were buying another Omega then what spec would you go for? (engine size, trim, model etc.)
7. What's the best thing about the Omega?
8. What's the worst?
9. Is MPG a serious issue for you?
10. Is there a better alternative to the Omega when taking into account price and comfort levels etc?

Thanks in advance. :y

.....

1. Why did you pick the Omega/s you've got now?  It was a late prefacelift car - I'm not keen on face lift car
2. Did you regret your choice and if so, why?  No
3. If you haven't got an Omega now then why not?  n/a
4. Which Omega engine is best/worst? The biggest you can afford to run. Big is best .... bigger is better
5. Is a leather interior better than cloth?  Are apples better than bananas?  ::)
6. If your current car got written off and you were buying another Omega then what spec would you go for? (engine size, trim, model etc.) I already have a replacement for my Omega, but if I had to buy another Omega it'd be a 3.2 Elite
7. What's the best thing about the Omega? Cheap
8. What's the worst?  Cheap
9. Is MPG a serious issue for you?  No
10. Is there a better alternative to the Omega when taking into account price and comfort levels etc? Probably an E Class Merc or 5 series BMW

6-same as what I got-2.5 v6 Elite Estate Auto
7-space/comfort
8-any DBW-- IMO
9-no got lpg(26 mpg)-calculated over distance/gas used
10-probably-but not an Omega

1. Why did you pick the Omega/s you've got now?

Always wanted a 3.2 Elite when i pretty much fell in love with 1st Omega i had  :)

7. What's the best thing about the Omega?

Personally imo.. Comfort, Toys, Cheap to buy and fix (most of the time), I like the way they look, RWD, Sort of a wolf in sheep's clothing..

9. Is MPG a serious issue for you?

Not really, It's not my every day car. More of a Summer/Weekend/Long journey cruiser.

10. Is there a better alternative to the Omega when taking into account price and comfort levels etc?

Probably, Such as Lexus LS400/LS430 as has been mentioned a lot recently. But there's still something about the Omega.

5. Is a leather interior better than cloth?

Easier to clean and looks better, Downsides can be noise and slippery, hot/cold, Velour is like a sofa. Leather is still comfy though.

Hi all.

I'm saving up for my next Omega. I have few questions for you which will help me decide what sort of miggy to get. Here goes:

1. Why did you pick the Omega/s you've got now? Available at the time
2. Did you regret your choice and if so, why? Should have bought another estate
3. If you haven't got an Omega now then why not? N/A
4. Which Omega engine is best/worst? For town driving not much difference
5. Is a leather interior better than cloth?Think  I would prefer cloth. Had a leather frontera didn't like it.
6. If your current car got written off and you were buying another Omega then what spec would you go for? (engine size, trim, model etc.) 3.2 lpg elite estate
7. What's the best thing about the Omega?Comfort
8. What's the worst?MPG
9. Is MPG a serious issue for you?Can live with it
10. Is there a better alternative to the Omega when taking into account price and comfort levels etc?For the price, no

All good questions IMO.

1. 3.2 Elite. Lots of toys. Comfort and smooth turbine like power. Big! Big boot, centre arm rest, head room, just. Its black. Black ones are faster :D

2. Over all. Absolutely not. I love it. But they do need some upkeep that less... Practical/mechanically minded owners may feel is excessive.

3. I do. But if I was to move on, it would cost considerably more money to top the performance AND toy level.

4. Don't know, as I've not tried them all, but for me, the 3.2 gives best power to maintenance ratio, although things like coil pacs are expensive to replace.

5. Not necessarily. Cold in winter/hot in summer, slippery in corners... But it comes with the car I want. So as there's nothing in it for me, leather is fine.

6. Same. 3.2 Elite in Black. Maybe Estate next time though. Although... I mite think twice about going through the rigmarole of getting a 3.2 omega up to scratch again. It would be the third time I will have re done and upgraded the suspension, fitted the irmscher stuff, badgered electrical geniuses on here to help me fit the extra toys again, fitted new cam cover gaskets, stoped the leaks, asked Kev to refurb the power sounder, fitted lpg....blah blah etc etc.
...its a lot of work.

7. One best thing... It was a good executive car in its day. Ie, big powerful comfy and fully loaded for its age.

8. The level of maintenance required, sadly. The leaks and handling take too much work to keep in line IMO. Yes its an old car, but sourcing reliable parts is getting harder to keep it healthy. If it didn't have lpg fitted though, fuel costs would be top of the list.

9. No, it has lpg. And thank The Lord. ;D

10. No, absolutely not. There's more reliable/more modern/more powerful/better loaded/more economical etc etc. but ALL those thing cost more money. Bangs for buck, you can't beat an omega. But some might prefer to pay more for reliability and save themselves some agro. Lexus maybe. Phaeton perhaps. BMW (spit) possibly if 530d.
But they ALL have faults of some sort. If you wanted to add reliability to an omega type car, I'd look at Lexus or Phaeton (then buy a vxr8 anyway, but that's just me ;) )

Having had at a rough count 19 Omega's, the following answers are based on the experience of owning some of those vehicles on a long term basis, or only a few days/weeks.

1) When I was 18, I was looking for my first car...and initially it was going to be an Astra G 2.0 DTI. I'd always liked the look of the Omega's, but felt it wasn't the best vehicle to buy. So then I ended up with a 2.2 CDX, it had only done 28k miles when I bought it. It was excellent, never went wrong and only needed routine maintenance .It was the favoured car out of all of my friends for long distance journeys. Actually, they hated to admit it, but it was the car they always wanted to travel in. It is comfortable, quick, refined and substanially cheaper than the 5 series alternative. I could get a younger vehicle, with more equipment but with a Vauxhall badge. It never did, and still doesn't bother me it 'only' being a Vauxhall, VX have a proud heritage.
I now have x2 3.2 Manual's, both of these are preserved police vehicles, so fall outside the usual use for a vehicle.

2) No

3) I no longer have one as my every day vehicle, sadly for me they are just a bit too old, and in some circumstances I need to have a younger vehicle. My 2.6 manual Elite was replaced with a 2005/2006 Range Rover...and the equipment level really is very similiar. x4 heated seats, xenon's, cruise, sunroof, good audio, parking sensors, sat nav etc.

4) For power, yet some respectable fuel consumption...I'd suggest a 2.6 manual.

5) I prefer the look of leather, so would have that over cloth.

6) 3.2 Elite saloon

7) Capable, refined and fits in everywhere, whether that be a 5* Hotel, or the local Tesco's.

8) They are old vehicles now, and sadly they will and do require maintenance above and beyond what some people expect and are prepared to do. No one spends £800 on a £1000 vehicle, unless they appreciate the fact it's an Omega...not just a car.

9) No, both 3.2 manual's return better MPG than my old 2.6 Elite.

10) If you look at vehicle's circa 2003, I'd struggle to suggest much else up to £1,700 that'd be much good. The Mercedes C220 CDI 2001+ is worth a look, modern(ish) look, good mpg and well equipped if you search carefully but smaller than the Omega.

Hi all.

I'm saving up for my next Omega. I have few questions for you which will help me decide what sort of miggy to get. Here goes:

1. Why did you pick the Omega/s you've got now? relatively fast, confy proper car
2. Did you regret your choice and if so, why? nope, there is no replacement for omega for that price
3. If you haven't got an Omega now then why not? I stlll keep it
4. Which Omega engine is best/worst? biggest is better as they are all thirsty ;D
5. Is a leather interior better than cloth? I always prefer leather but not dark colors and my black leather is worst in summer :(
6. If your current car got written off and you were buying another Omega then what spec would you go for? (engine size, trim, model etc.)
I wouldnt buy again as there is no healthy ones left around.. and I dont have the same budget to build it up from scratch.. I've spent approx more than 8K£ in those years
7. What's the best thing about the Omega? trying to park in a narrow space ;D
8. What's the worst? fuel bills
9. Is MPG a serious issue for you? yep.. at 1.7£/litre , hammering is not cheap
10. Is there a better alternative to the Omega when taking into account price and comfort levels etc? imo nope

Thanks in advance. :y

Hi all.

I'm saving up for my next Omega. I have few questions for you which will help me decide what sort of miggy to get. Here goes:

1. Why did you pick the Omega/s you've got now?   First barge was a 2L CD, and promised myself a V6 Elite!
2. Did you regret your choice and if so, why?          At the time no!
3. If you haven't got an Omega now then why not?  Fuel consumption. Now drive a 2.2 TDCi Mondeo TXS
4. Which Omega engine is best/worst?                    Of the 2 I've had, the V6 was miles better.
5. Is a leather interior better than cloth?                 Cannot comment, always prefer cloth
6. If your current car got written off and you were buying another Omega then what spec would you go for? (engine size, trim, model etc.)   V6 Elite
7. What's the best thing about the Omega?              Toys
8. What's the worst?                                            MPG
9. Is MPG a serious issue for you?                           Nowadays, yes!
10. Is there a better alternative to the Omega when taking into account price and comfort levels etc?  If you forget price, then what I have now is better all round in my eyes! (Awaits verbal abuse for that one)

Thanks in advance. :y
