Failed Balloon Attempt

So the chap aiming to cross the Atlantic in a lifeboat suspended by thousands of balloons filled with helium has been forced to abandon the attempt.

Now I know he thought he was being adventurous and perhaps I am missing a point, but hasn't this been achieved in a more stylish form before? :

I heard that on the radio earlier. I could help but think he was attempting to achieve a Darwen Award!  ;D  ;D  ;D
