Just goes to show how crap dealers are! Not just Vauxhall ones but all of them in general are so, so poor. FatherT's 2.2 had the gearbox upgrade, for us it was the down changes which became silky smooth, just watch the rev dial to see when it actually changed gear!
Couple of extra things worth knowing, 2.2's love fresh oil. My 2.2 CD, is on 167k, it's super quiet thanks to life time of sub 5k oil changes. (it's around £10, for oil and filter on GM trade)
Also remember that the exhaust flexi is a comon failure, do not be under the impression the whole down pipe and cat needs to be replaced. A £15 flexi can be cut out and welded in, fuse18 has done this for me 3 times now! On my 2.2 its been done twice, once at around 95k and again recently at 160k ish. Also done FatherT's 2.2. This is far better than replacing it with pattern cats which sound awful!
Finally breathers make a big difference, the 2.2 lacks a few horses but at the end of the day is not bad. But clean throttle body and breathers really help
