Start/stop
« on: 22 September 2013, 17:24:11 »

Just been to McDonald's for a burger for the lad, quite a queue there. Behind me was a small VW with start/stop. Every time we inched forward I could hear his engine (a small diesel) splutter i to life, only to stop again about three feet later. It must have done it 7 or 8 times while I was there.
Surely this cannot be good for the battery/starter?

Not sure about the VW's but on the BM's it only does it when the Battery is in good condition.

Some one did tell me once that when its in that mode the Flywheel is still spinning, but cant see that myself.

It's a proper pain in the yaris if you're in stop start traffic approaching, say, a busy roundabout on a dual carriageway  >:(

You can guarantee that it will cut out about half a second before a suitable gap appears, only for you to miss it due the delay caused by restarting...

Occasionally drive an automatic 7.5t with it, which tries to solve the problem by restarting in gear the second you either press the throttle or lift of the brake, which seems a bit retarded...

I didn't think they allowed motor cars inside McDonalds..... :)

Wouldn't it have been better to park outside and then walk in?...... ::) ::) :)

It's a new-fangled, American thing Opti, a drive-through. Doubt it will have reached Lincolnshire yet.

I thought you could turn it off, had this on a Peugeot I was looking at some time ago and they told me it could be turned off as I did not fancy it for said reasons....... :-\ :-\

I've only driven one car with it, a B Class MB, you had to turn it of every time you started the car. No idea if they can be reprogrammed  ..... I doubt it though  :-\
