It's a proper pain in the yaris if you're in stop start traffic approaching, say, a busy roundabout on a dual carriageway  >:(

You can guarantee that it will cut out about half a second before a suitable gap appears, only for you to miss it due the delay caused by restarting...

Occasionally drive an automatic 7.5t with it, which tries to solve the problem by restarting in gear the second you either press the throttle or lift of the brake, which seems a bit retarded...

I thought you could turn it off, had this on a Peugeot I was looking at some time ago and they told me it could be turned off as I did not fancy it for said reasons....... :-\ :-\

I've only driven one car with it, a B Class MB, you had to turn it of every time you started the car. No idea if they can be reprogrammed  ..... I doubt it though  :-\

That would drive me insane...... >:( >:(
Had a golf blu motion for a while. And yes, it's certainly does drive me insane too. Inbloodyfuriating!

Although, now that I remember, you could cheat it slightly by lifting off the brake pressure but not releasing the brake completely, so the car was running when the lights changed.

Those cars that I notice do have it, I find amusing by pulling up way short, then creaping forward, slowly. Especially if its a cock mobile.  :-X

start stop technology is not important on a single car basis but if you think hundreds of millions of cars running everyday * 365 a year * n years , it makes a difference.. :-\

I bet it makes a real difference to the amount of lead that's discarded from old car batteries. ;)

car batteries can be collected and chemicals may be re-used or destroyed properly.. but you have no chance to stop harmful gases once fuel is burned..  besides this fuel also is not endless..  :-\

Plus it should teach you to wait for enough space, then more forward slowly, then slow down gently giving the queue a chance to move before you stop meaning you don't have to keep stopping so much and nor do all the other cars behind you.

What about all the wasted fuel used in recharging those batteries, not to mention the fact that the batteries don't last.

And the longer travel times - where I work, we have enough trouble with 'tards waiting for rush hour to finish before pulling onto a roundabout, without this causing extra delays.

I'm afraid I said goodbye to the days when my car would stall at every junction when I sold my Morris Ital, and I'm not going back!

What happens when the engine stops? Does the Climate Control stop providing cold air? Do all the other electrical loads switch off so your back window mists up?
