My parents did not drive until my mother passed in 1974. When I was 17 in 1969 they bought an Austin Cambridge A60 in 2 tone grey in which they had me drive them around - a good trade off. We had a petrol account and it came to a massive cost of something like £15 a month (at 3 gallons to a pound).

My dad had the following:
Austin 7 (before I was born)
Morris Oxford
Mk1 Ford Cortina - New
Austin Maxi 1750 - New
Austin Maxi 1750 Automatic - New, he need an automatic due to having MS and gradually losing the use of his legs. Eventually had it converted to hand controls before he gave up driving.

My mum never learnt to drive.

My next door neighbour was a Fiat salesman with another branch selling BL cars. Needless to say when my dad was looking for a replacement for the Cortina we had a test drive in a Fiat 124 special T, needless to say I wanted my dad to get this, but being Mr Sensible he bought the Austin Maxi instead.  :o

I have no idea what my folks had before I was around. I wasn't born until my Dad was 50, so he'd no doubt had an interesting collection. In fact, as he didn't meet Mum until he was 40, he'd had an entire lifetime before the life we knew - and upon quizzing, we only got a knowing grin. God knows how many half brothers and sisters I have ;D

I do know when they were planning getting married, Dad rolled their "blue car" into a field, putting mum in hospital for weeks, thus delaying the wedding. Which had a curious side effect of making my eldest bro very, very premature on his 9 month gestation period ::) ;D.  This is the reason my Mum scorns me when I get blue cars I think.

Dad had a great big monstrous Humber Imperial for years when I was a kid, after that Mk1 ford Granada 3.0, Mk2 2.8 Ghia, Mk3 Ghia X. Then Series 3 Daimler Sovereign, 2.9 Cosworth Granada  8) 8) 8), Series 3 V12 Jaaaaaaaaaag  8) 8) 8). He then got all sensible with a 1.7D Cavalier????  ??? ??? then several Vauxhall Zafiras, before I wrestled his driving licence from him a couple of years ago  ::) ::)

Mum had a Daf 66GL  ??? Vauxhall Viva, Mk2 Escort. She drove dads Daimler for a while before having a slight mishap with a crash barrier in it  :o :o :o Never forget that, when she came home she reversed it into the drive (a think she never did) so that the damage wouldn't be noticeable when you looked through the kitchen window, cause all you'd see is the undamaged side. Immediately Dad smelled a rat!!!  :o :o :o

Pop had many vauxhalls , but bonded well with the Viva  :-X I remember feeling very sick in the back seat on our way to bournmouth on holidays ...  :(
Then he had a stint on Datsuns that rusted before your eyes  ;D
Soon went back to vx though with the victor 1800 being the biggest car he owned  :y

First one I can remember was a Morris Isis "woodie"estate. After that a couple of Humber Super Snipes, then a month with a VDP 3L Princess[in that month it had three new gearboxes!!and it was a brand new car!]so then back to Super Snipes until 1967 when they'd stopped making them.Next up was a Mk4 Zodiac Executive[what a barge!!]followed by a Wolesley 18/85 and a 1933 Buick[armour plated it weighed in at 4 1/2 tons!!].These both went to be followed by a Silver Cloud 3 which was in turn followed by a Mercedes 280CE coupe and the final car dad had before passing away at the age of 56 was a Mk1 Escort 1300XL.Mum never learned to drive.

Before I came along I think my Dad had a series of BL Minis followed by Alfasuds (x2 if I recall).. once I came along it went something like this:

Beige BL Metro
Blue BL Maestro (diseasel)
Blue Nissan Bluebird (diseasel)
Red Rover Metro 1.1 (poor sod had been posted away from where we were living, commuting Brampton to York weekly and we couldn't afford anything bigger with a mortgage @ 15+%!)
Rover 200 (diseasel, the blobby one)
Green Rover 45 (diseasel)
Nissan Note (diseasel)
Another Nissan Note (diseasel)

Probably the fastest moving Nissan Note on the roads based on how they seem to be driven (slowly) usually.. the dealer was confused when, after suggesting my Dad drive it gently and 'run it in' for the first 800 miles the response was "Ok, so drive it normally after tomorrow" - seeing as the first journey it did after collection from Nissan, Bournemouth was Bournemouth to Nordenham (near Bremerhaven, Germany) ;D

from what I remember
a green "turtle wax" mini van 1960 something
2 Hillman minxes company drives
ford zephyr
Opel Commodore 2.5 GS  from brand new
Vauxhall Nova
MG Metro
and a couple of Peugeot 307's
and now a Peugeot 3008
and he is 84 and still is an excellent driver, mind you, doing up to 60k miles as a rep (when reps actually drove and stayed away 1 week in 4)
he worked for many years for Crosland Filters and Turtle wax and a company called Survey Silencers

E Plate 1.0 Rover Metro for mum, then series of Fords from dad. Couple of Ford Sierra's (both saloons) red and a blue I think. Then moved onto Granada (not the bug eyed one)

Loved that one as a kid because it had leccy window's in the back. Ohhh toys!  :D

Sadly some idiot ran into the back of us, bent the drive shaft and that was that. After that had some crappy Rover 400.

Then onto Vx's - Red Carlton Estate, 2.0 I think. That clocked up some miles, 130k in 3 years I think.

Then onto Omega's P Reg GLS and now 2.2 Facelift...
