rear brakes
« on: 25 September 2013, 14:30:12 »

Hi all, it's been a while since i've been on and as usual I come back with questions!, yesterday i renewed my rear brakes, what a pita of a job!, anyway after i fought the old discs off the new ones slid on really easy so i thought great!!, after adjusting the hand brake on the cable all felt well with 5 clicks to full hand brakage, i took it for a test drive and now the hand brake comes right to the top without much braking power, also there is a squeking grinding sort of noise which sounds like a spring caught somewhere?? so i geuss i'll have to take that side off again and see what's going on and i was thinking i could adjust the shoes to get more tension on the handbrake right?,
any opinions appreciated,
cheers,
Rich.

See the handbrake guide. You should not adjust it purely on the cable.

memory tells me, that you adjust the internal shoes until they just bind, and then, back the internal adjuster off one notch, and then finish the adjustment by tightening the cable until you have three clicks on the lever. hope this is correct, if not somebody will be along with the correct response.
