Would any of the experts in wheels and tyres know the answer to this question?

My passat has always suffered a slight vibration coming from the rear, when going at roughly 65mph....below 60 is fine, 70 and above is fine. But it was so slight ive never bothered about it. I suspected an alloy on the back may have been buckled.

Last week i had a puncture repaired on one the tyres on the back (2 nails in it!).....i noticed the repairer didnt bother to rebalance the wheel after refitting the tyre.

Now the vibration seems definately worse at approx 65mph.

So the question is, could badly balanced wheels on the back be causing this?

To expand, a buckled wheel will also be like being out of balance unless it is balanced after it has happened

Thanks for replies......guess i'll be getting the rear tyres rebalanced next week then

before balance wheels must be corrected to perfect circular shape..  most shops just do a balance and skip the most important step..

last month I took a friends car to a shop .. all four wheels were slightly buckled (original 17 omega wheels) and he has visited 3 shops before

A good balanacer can balance out a slightly deformed wheel - lets face it, all our wheels are imperfect with the state of our roads.

Obviously, if the wheel is deformed too much, you'll never be able to balance it out enough to be unnoticible.

Hence the reason TB has a blob of melted Alloy wheel from his stock of MFL MV6 wheels

seems most shops dont care.. and most customers are not aware

Had the rears balanced the other day......one was 75grams out, the other 50grams....

Not been fast enough since to see if the vibration has gone
