BMW given new lease of life!
« on: 29 September 2013, 17:52:59 »

Well I've had 2 weeks leave and came back on nights. When I'd managed to read all me e-mails and do all the paperwork, the only BMW left in the yard was the eldest of our fleet, '60 plate 5 series tourer. No one likes driving this one as it is the 'runt' of the litter and runs like an asthmatic smoking 100 a day. Had it back to HQ several times for various faults since we've had it, DPF's inlet manifold problems, injector issues. Its a bit of a friday afternoon car to be honest.

Well I begrudgingly took it out for the night and OMG  :o :o :o dunno what the mechanics have done to it but it goes like $h1t off a shovel  :o :o :o Put me foot down and nearly snapped me neck with the whiplash. It pulls like a train & drives like a BM should, I was amazed it didn't feel like the same car it was before. There was no smoking at idle, and it was as quiet as a mouse, I was very impressed. I got back into the office a few hours later and asked if anyone else had experienced this marvel to be told it had only just come back from the dealers where it had been for the last 10 days. I dunno what they did but WOW!!!

The trick now is to tell your colleagues it's still awful to drive...then you get it all to yourself  ::)
I own x2 preserved police vehicles, naturally both Omega's. One has full conspicuity markings, and the local traffic officers keep telling me how they'd much prefer to drive an Omega over the current Insignia's. They sometimes pop by just to have a look  ;D

It does seem though, that it can be very hit and miss with the BMW's, some officers I've spoken to from different forces really rate them, others despise them...but one recurring theme is they don't put up with the punishment as well as other vehicles can, like the V70 for example.

YOU don't. It's a specialist, expensive job. Timing it correctly, not just lining up the dots is also worthwhile.
