Just curious, but it would appear that the ECU on a 2.2 petrol auto prevents the engine powering up when both the brake pedal and the accelerator are applied simultaneously, not encountered that before on an auto - would be a serious problem on a drag race car ! Can't hold it on the brake and bring up the revs for a launch (fast getaway). Yeah, I know, obviously this isn't (a) a drag race vehicle (b) its not often you need to brake and apply throttle at the same time - its obviously either a safety feature or another things that's faulty on this ol' Barge.

I think the 3.2 ECU only gives you long enough for a quick stall test before it shuts down.

The DBW throttle has 'switched off' on all cars I've driven that has one ie my 1.7 TD Astra, SWMBO's 1600 16vv Astra, my Dad's Kia, my Merc

I used to have a 2.2 auto Zafira (2001 model) and it would certainly allow me to floor the throttle and hold the car on the brake like that for a fast getaway. I only ever held it for a second at most - don't want to boil the oil and melt the torque converter seals.

Driving with big work boots, its quite possible to drive an auto with both pedals pressed. But having noticed as much, I thought ok " let's see what happens "

After a short while, say 5 seconds at 70, I noticed the car start to stutter, and lifted immediately. No ill effects and I haven't done it since.

So I'd say yes. It does. But only above a certain speed. I guess the auto box doesn't like a constant speed signal, and the brake light switch activated at the same time. :-\

Ah, yes, only ever tried from standing start, or a quick left foot dab if an overtake is mistimed, and I need not to run into the car in front (though personally I'd like to drive over the top of slow cars)
