Classic diesel engine runaway

Saw this in another thread and just got me thinking..... ::) ::)  I have never come across this and I fully understand how the car was stopped by stalling it, my thought were how would you stop an auto in this situation?.......... :-\ :-\

If your intake is anything like that on mine ...... park it as far away from civilisation as you can & wait for it to run out of oil  ??? ??? Air filters are a tw4t to change on mine due to lack of access.

I was perfectly fine till I came on OOF tonight, now I am depressed by 2 threads....... ::) ::)

I heard a CO2 fire extinguisher to the inlet will stop it dead, no oxygen no bang.

Makes sense.... :y Not used one since I was at Scout Camp, as a leader, and used to cool the beer down at the end of the day...... :y :y

Not an issue on some modern diesels that have DPF's as in order to regen a DPF many use a throttle butterfly ......ignition off, butterfly shuts and engine stops.

In my Ericsson days the Volvos were removed from the company car list following three that grenaded themselves in the car park running on thier own oil.
