What you don't need the day before you pick up a new car
« on: 11 October 2013, 15:23:42 »

Last week my son and daughter in law bought 2 cars for delivery  tomorrow.

First - the Mercedes C280 Sport - thanks to Josh Wyatt for his advice on extended warranties which is much appreciated. This will be sorted tomorrow.

62 Plate Mini Countryman - huge main dealer has cocked up big time. Car they pushed was a two tone - but agreed to spray roof to same colour as body. Just phoned to say it has not been done and is very difficult and more costly than they anticipated !!! Compensation now being offered - cannot believe it - they are also a Rolls Royce main dealer. Told my son to hang fire as they are trying to get him to still pick it up tomorrow.

Unbelievable - they must/should have known this  at least 2/3 days ago.

On the upside, it means they now have the opportunity to buy a proper car for less money :P. Whatever possessed them to want a poxy MINI :P

Seriously, if the car had to be sprayed to be how they wanted, then clearly it wasn't the right car for them. Would you buy a newish car than had been sprayed? It would seriously reduce resale value I would have thought....

I told them all this last week - the car looks great as it is - but who the hell am I? The decision to spray these days is far removed from what us slightly older types are used to.

My daughter's family in law are involved in customising Range Rovers and other up marques (ex Overfinch) for Arabs and footballers - they don't seem to bothered about tinkering with original finishes - personally I just would not do it.

Agreed. The Mini Countryman is huge and irretrievably ugly. It has the looks of a flatulent hippo. ;)

Anything would be better than one of these. :y

The good lord is looking down on your DIL and giving her a second chance. ;D ;D :y

No chance - she is determined and pregnant. She is trading in her Mini Cooper S Convertible - so a Mini convert despite views to the contrary. The garage has now offered whopping amount of money off - will wait to see if garage has made a mistake when they pick up tomorrow.

You might knock the Mini - but effectively she got £7000 for a 2006 Cooper S Convertible she paid £11000 for 5 years ago - can't argue with that. It has been into  kerbs more times than a road sweeper so we now have spare set of run flat alloys  to get rid of.

A proper mini followed me from town today. I'd forgotten how small and nippy there are. The young lad was really enjoying himself. Hmmm....

Put a new, and an old Mini next to each other, and the difference in size is obvious. :(

Surely the definition of the word 'mini' means small.

New one has just turned up - it is higher than Phaeton and I (6ft 6) can get in passenger seat easy with my son (6ft 4) sat behind :o

Mini or MINI is just a brand these days, but nevertheless seem to be more and more popular the bigger and more fugly they get!!  :-\

Good for Oxford and British manufacturing in general!!  :y
