Very impressed with these on the elite with 16's, very sure footed in the wet - given the self imposed speed restrictions due age - and very quiet. Also a more comfortable ride than the Conti SC3's on 17's which they replaced.

they are a quite and comfortable and designed towards fuel efficiency .. so imo dont push their limits in wet and cold..

Simply that if you do, put some different tyres on it first my second estate had them fitted and I didn't get to the end of my road, 120 yards away without stacking it slid it all the way back to the drive, swapped the wheels for ones with my favourite tyres on and had no problems for the rest of the winter

Winter tyres do have a place in life.  However, even with the cold blasts we've had in the last 2 or 3 years, we haven't needed winter tyres for the last 43yrs of my lifetime.

I recall my dad still driving me to school 5 miles away in his DS Safari, and having to lift the suspension to the top "emergency"/wheel changing height to drive over the snow. I'd bet my right bollock that he never had winters, he was tight enough to make tunnie look generous

I agree we have times when winters would outperform what I have been using (christ, they'd outperform those SC5s in *any* condition), but that is only for a few days each year. Its simply not financially viable here. Plus, as previously stated, many UK car insurance would be invalidated.

long years ago , when I was driving my fathers car we didnt know anything specilised like "summer", "winter" tyres. we used our tyres all year . if conditions go bad - I still remember winters with 1.5-2 meters deep snow in anatolia cities-we simply used chains if we could dig

but as time goes by this system invented new ways to earn money from tyres.. 

hence seperate winter and summer tyres..

however now it became standard here.. even days with snow is limited  in big cities.. but I must admit they are better in wet and cold.. and I hate using chains and freezing my hands in mudy snow.. its not practical..
