Removing heater cell pack, Ideas?
« on: 19 October 2013, 08:39:03 »

So problem is there is no hot air coming from the blower. Seems to be a "stuck" cell pack. Any ideas on how to remove it without removing whole dash?

Illustrative pic of the part in question..

Also known here as the "Heater Matrix"

Have you tried flushing it? Disconnect the hoses in the engine bay, attach a water hose to one of them, and flush water through?

There is a method but requires slight surgery to the dash in the footwell area.

heater motor running and heater by pass valve working correctly?

If the above are ok and the heater matrix (cell pack) is not leaking might be worth trying to flush it through.

So I ended up doing this surgery, washed the matrix and for test I filled it up with hot water and it was nice and hot allover. After re-installing it in the car the inlet pipe(upper) is nice and hot but the lower one is totally cold still and no hot air is coming to the car. So is it still clogged and should be replaced or should I take the matrix apart( this plastic off) and then clean the pipes inside? Ideas?

Thx

Replace matrix - cheap enough, not worth mucking about with it and trying to reseal it ;)

I ended up doing the "surgery thing" last year when the matrix sprung a leak.

If you take your time and are carefull the repair is almost totally invisible and quite quick .

You will require the 2 "0" ring rubber seals for the metalpeip to matrix in the footwell which are VX only part and crazy price if I remember around £3=00 each.

Best of luck

When mine blew in the Elite, the replacement came complete with the o-rings.  As said a bit of care with the surgery and the end result is not noticeable ;)

Re: Removing heater matrix, FIXED. New question
« Reply #9 on: 23 October 2013, 17:00:12 »

Sucsess! Looks like I washed it enough and that was all it needed, so after three days I have hot air again.

Do I understand correct that the fan is located under the matrix and it is blowing the hot air up? At the moment I think I have a "leak" and most of the air is coming out from the side and not much goes to the vents.
Anyone has a picture of the system?

Thx
