Insignia Service - Part II
« on: 28 October 2013, 11:06:00 »

Insignia went in for a major service last Wednesday, labour charge £93.60, collected from my door, and delivered back :y

I supplied all the parts, oil, filters etc...

Cheeky blighters carried out a first service on it, changed the oil and oil filter, all other parts were returned to me.

When I queried it, they said that the price quoted was for a first service, and that's what they carried out.

Fortunately, when I booked it in, I asked for a printout of the service, so that I could purchase all the required parts.

Went down today with my piece of paper, service manager was most apologetic, full service will be completed on Wednesday whilst I wait.

Full service should have been quoted at considerably more, as more labour required.

Result, apart from the inconvenience :y

Still amazed at basic failings from dealers, really puts me off new cars. Dealers full of idiots.  :(

But to the above, they charged you £93.60, for an oil and filter change, with you supplying the parts?  :o

Ok it was miss quoted for a full service, but that is their cost for an oil change  :o :o

Apart from several visual checks, they did drain the fuel filter, £93.60 is for an hour and a quarters work.

The only reason I let them do it, I needed my service book stamped to preserve the warranty.

The original quote was £298 for a full service inc. parts.

I'm not defending them, by the way.

I need a few more posts like this, my enthusiasm for car work is a bit battered ATM. I really can't be arsed to do my own stuff, apart form not having time to work on mine or anyone else's cars.

I keep getting thoughts of, just buy a newer car and save yourself some agro. NOOOOOO!  ££££££££ :o for a bloody oil change ? :o

As long as the service work is done to the manufacture's time limits or milage, then they have to uphold the warranty.
. Was an European ruling on motor manufacturer's,called block exemption, also covered, diagnostic information. The eu said the manufacturers could not doit as it was a form of monopoly.

Agreed, but, apart from letting the local indie. change the oil and filter, (they let me watch), I wouldn't trust them to do anything else, and that goes for all the indies. around here.

I've been told whoever stamps the book must be VAT registered.

The requirements for the lifetime warranty are simple.

The work must be carried out to Vx spec using Vx approved parts and by a VAT registered outfit.

The car must then be inspected by Vauxhall annulay (free) and evidence provided for the servicing.

And for info, a major service can be done in 1.25 hours as the inpection is a free bit.

But I ahev said it before AA, the dealer you use is known as one of the worst there is  :y

£93 labour for essentially nothing more than an oil change. :o :o :o :(

It was much the same with Mrs Opti's RX8.......roughly £130, although that did include 3.5 litres of oil.

I supplied the filter.

Dealer/spiv/crook.....call them what you like. >:(
